New Delhi – The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has released an important update for postgraduate medical students appearing for the INI-CET July 2025 session. The latest notice explains the rules and deadlines for submitting thesis and protocols for students enrolled in DM, MCh, MD, MS, and MDS courses.
These rules are based on Office Memorandum No. F.11-Misc/2025(6)-Acad.II, dated 4th February 2025, and are a continuation of existing practices. The notice has also been linked to Point F(ii) of the AIIMS Prospectus Part-B for the July 2025 session.
For 6-Year DM/MCh Courses – Two Theses and Two Protocols Needed
Students registered in the 6-year DM/MCh super-specialty courses must submit two separate thesis protocols and two thesis projects during their course period:
- First Protocol: Must be submitted within 4 months of joining the 1st year of Junior Residency.
- Second Protocol: Must be submitted in the 4th year of the course, within 4 months of beginning Senior Residency.
Students can apply for a maximum 2-month extension for protocol submission. This will be granted by the Dean (Academics) only if the reason is considered valid.
Thesis Submission Deadlines for DM/MCh Students
Candidates in DM/MCh programs must submit both thesis projects by the following deadlines:
- 31st August for those appearing in the December exam
- 31st January for those appearing in the May exam
Both theses can be submitted together if the student prefers.
Final Exams at the End of Six Years

- Complete all required clinical postings, rotations, and assessments during their residency.
- Not have taken more than 30 days of Extra-Ordinary Leave (EOL) during the entire course. Maternity leave will be treated like EOL for calculating course extensions and exam delays.
Guidelines for MD/MS/MDS Courses
For students pursuing MD, MS, or MDS degrees, the process is slightly different:
- The thesis protocol must be approved by the departmental faculty and submitted to the Academic Section within 4 months of joining.
- If not submitted within time, the student’s registration will be cancelled.
- Thesis Submission Deadlines:
